Donchian Channel

The Donchian Channel plots the highest high and lowest low over a selected number of periods.

It helps identify:

  • Breakouts

  • Trend direction

  • Volatility expansion

  • Support and resistance levels

The channel consists of:

  • Upper Line – Highest high of the lookback period

  • Lower Line – Lowest low of the lookback period

Parameters


Length

Defines how many past bars are used to calculate:

  • The highest high (Upper Line)

  • The lowest low (Lower Line)

Increasing the length makes the channel wider and slower to react.
Decreasing the length makes it more sensitive to recent price changes.


Subgraphs


Donchian_Channel

Controls the visual style of the main channel structure.

  • Color / 2° Color – Sets line colors.

  • Subgraph Style – Determines how the channel is drawn (line style).

  • Auto Color – Automatically changes color based on logic (if enabled).

  • Line Style – Solid, dashed, etc.

  • Line Width – Adjusts thickness.

  • Short Name – Custom label displayed on chart.


+DI (Upper Line)

Represents the highest high over the selected period.


-DI (Lower Line)

Represents the lowest low over the selected period.


Display Options (All Subgraphs)

  • Name Label – Shows indicator name on chart.

  • Value Label – Shows current value.

  • Name Background – Background behind name.

  • Value Background – Background behind value.

  • Include on Auto Center – Includes indicator in auto-scaling calculations.

  • Chart color for marker – Uses chart color for marker elements.
