Know Sure Thing (KST)

The Know Sure Thing (KST) is a momentum oscillator based on multiple smoothed Rate of Change (ROC) calculations.

It combines short-, medium-, and long-term momentum into one indicator and includes a signal line for crossover analysis.

Used to identify:

  • Momentum shifts

  • Trend confirmation

  • Divergences

  • Overextended conditions

Settings

Chart Area

  • Horizontal – Displays KST in a separate panel.

  • Vertical – Displays vertically (if supported).

  • Panel selector – Chooses which panel the indicator appears in.

  • Use sec. axis – Enables secondary scaling.

Parameters

General

Use percent

  1. Switches ROC calculation between:
    • Raw values

    • Percentage-based momentum

Average

Average Type
  1. Defines the smoothing method applied to each ROC component.
Avg Length 1–4
  1. Controls smoothing of each individual ROC calculation.
  2. Higher values = smoother but slower response.
Signal Period
  1. Defines the smoothing length of the signal line used for crossover signals.

ROC

ROC Length 1–4
  1. Defines the lookback period for each Rate of Change component.
  2. Shorter lengths react faster.
  3. Longer lengths capture broader momentum trends.

Level Settings

Middle Level
  1. Defines the neutral (zero) reference line.
Middle Level Color
  1. Customizes the zero-line color.
Level Width
  1. Adjusts thickness of the reference line.

KST

Controls appearance of the main momentum line:

  • Color

  • Line style

  • Width

  • Auto color behavior

  • Label display

Signal

Controls appearance of the signal line:

  • Color

  • Line style

  • Width

  • Label display

Display Options (Both Lines)

  • Name Label – Shows indicator name.

  • Value Label – Displays current value.

  • Name Background – Background behind name.

  • Value Background – Background behind value.

  • Include on Auto Center – Includes indicator in auto-scaling.

  • Chart color for marker – Uses chart color for markers.

How It Works

  • KST above zero → Bullish momentum bias.

  • KST below zero → Bearish momentum bias.

  • KST crossing above Signal → Potential bullish shift.

  • KST crossing below Signal → Potential bearish shift.
